Evans & Doherty Album Review
By Paul Harrison
THE WORLD IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT
Brian Doherty’s and Kevin Evan’s top shelf musicianship coupled with the hi-fi production, courtesy of engineer Terry Pulliam, provide an engaging backdrop for this veteran duo’s energetic traditional folk offerings on their latest release.
You can almost feel the fog rolling into Halifax Harbour and smell the salt-water spray of the Atlantic Ocean within the 15 tracks carved into this album. Soaring choruses punctuated with passion and gritty, optimistic humour support a muse that would make Stan Rogers proud. It’s East Coast folk rock at its best. And hey! Anybody who covers “The Swimming Song” by Loudon Wainwright III is going to find a spot in my album collection.
